1. AA Bondy - American Hearts

My favorite of the year, from the moment I first heard it I knew it was going to be on the list. Bare bones production, recorded in a barn in upstate New York. Bondy with his family connection with The Felice Brothers, recorded a beautiful, honest, raw album dealing with everything. From drugs to war to love, nothing is off the table with this effort. Every song is well worth the time and attention. Favorites are There's A Reason, American Hearts, Lovers Waltz, and Killed Myself When I Was Young. here

Nice pick - and a very nice list! Some obvious, critically acclaimed choices that's hard to leave out (Bon Iver!) and some inspired, personal ones. Keep posting the good stuff.

A.A. > absolutely amazing. this is definitely my favorite album of the year and from reading all the lists, i'd say the unsung hero as well.

check out a.a. bondy's set on www.daytrotter.com. (3 new songs) "oh the vampyre" is chilling.

Right with you on this one. I got it at Ear Bleeding Country in 07 but it doesn't matter whether it was 07 or 08 - still a great album.

Fleet Foxes? Bon Iver?
Hmm! Not so sure. Over rated in my opinion.

Like your mates Wiseblood album though.

Cheers

This is a great album, fell to #2 on my list. I believe that Fat Possum re-released it in 2008, much like Jagjaguwar re-releasing of Bon Iver. Good thing to, otherwise a good majority may have missed these gems.
