My Mourning Jacket - E^il Urges

Yes, it has finally leaked. Thank you to the many people who sent me the link via email. When I woke up still stirring from the night before, I instantly woke up when I saw the link. I quickly downloaded, synced to ipod and at work was listening to it all day. My friend Anna at Pop Apocalypse seemed disappointed with the new album. I respectfully disagree, MMJ pick back up where Z left off (see Aluminum Park, Remnants). The album is full of new explorations, as well as songs that bring back the days of At Dawn, and Tennessee Fire (see the Librarian). All the songs are pretty catchy, and whenever Jim James hits those falsetto notes it makes you wanna scream too. It will take awhile for me to place this album in the listing of their top albums, but I really enjoy this. As most records it will take some time to completely digest this release. The only thing I was disappointed with this release is the reaction, after countless interviews with Jim James and the rest of the band, all the mp3 links, people seem to be stunned when they hear some of the songs, like it sounds "disco" or "prince like". Anyone who has a little knowledge of the band know that they juggle great musicianship with sillyness (see their live stage sets, stage outfits, and themed concerts). The album is pretty fucking great, and also the true test has been answered by people who have seen these new songs live (they all agree they kick ass). Also James explained in a rolling stone interview months ago, he and the band got really into the gospel music, and music about spirituality (see Thank You Too). All members of the band have great knowledge of contemporary and classic artists, they take certain aspects of music and fiddle with it created something completely new, I applaud MMJ for not treading water, trying something new, and for me truly succeeding. Im not sure where these people were months ago when the information for the album leaked. Anyway, enjoy and let me know what you guys think.

Yes I fully agree that it is amazing. God damn amazing.

I forgot to tell you that I am going to see them in Louisville in August! Got tickets yesterday, I am super excited.

Thanks for sharing this !
I'm falling in love with this album. I agree that it is a very fitting follow-up to Z. Emotionally a step further than I have experienced them so far. It'll take a while to get to know the album, but so far ... very good !!

I am digging the album but I must admit I do hold "It Still Moves" as their best album but this is still pretty good.

Well said. I'm surprised that others are surprised about the sound. But I'm lovin' it. Still a few songs I'm not fond off, but I cannot get enough of most of them (esp I'm Amazed and Smokin' from Shootin'), and most all of these songs will kick live.

I agree, this album is kick ass. It would be perfect if Highly Suspicious wasn't on it though...
